Tom Dunnett Quintet

The “Tom Dunnett Quintet” was formed in march last year by trombonist Tom Dunnett. The Band features both current and past students from the Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz course, with Ric Yarbough on drums, Tobie Carpenter on Guitar, Dan Casimir on bass, and Alex Woods on tenor sax. The music is mostly original compositions by Tom which are both modern and a bit mad! The band is currently working on a new suite of curry related compositions!

Tom was born in 1991 and has spent most of his life in Norwich where he joined the county jazz orchestra, symphony orchestra and wind band. He was a chorister at Norwich Cathedral and studied at Norwich School. In 2009 Tom took a place at the Birmingham Conservatoire and is currently in his 4th year of study on the jazz course under Ashley Horton, Jeremy Price and Pete Beachill. Since starting in Birmingham, Tom has been involved in many projects and received workshops and tutorage from names such as Dave Holland, Mark Turner, Lee Konitz, George Colligan, Jeff Ballard, Mark Bassey, Mike Williams and Percy Pursglove, Hans Koller. Tom currently holds the position of lead trombone with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra and a chair in MYJO under the direction of John Ruddick. Tom also worked with MYJO, the 606 Big Band, the London Jazz Orchestra, The Julian Joseph Big Band and plays with his own quintet around Birmingham.
